In short nuclear energy is generated by splitting or fusing together of atomic nuclei to produce heat. The heat energy is then used to heat water which is then used to drive steam turbines which convert the heat energy to electrical energy which we can use in our homes, offices or wherever. The process of fission is said to have first been done by the Italian scientist Enrico Fermi.
It is considered to be one of the alternative sources of energy for the future. Currently it supplies about fifteen percent of the worlds energy. Much debate has gone on about it’s reliability, the economics and it’s safety/security. The operators of these facilities are often very cautious and because of that you realize that it’s production causes far less damage to the atmosphere than fossil fuels. Fossil fuels tend to produce sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and other poisonous gases.
